Cascade raises the bar yet again with custom ripped and surfaced Alder direct from the mill

As the hardwood industry moves to more companies buying rips and width sorts, Cascade has just completed the installation of our new planing and rip line. It was designed to offer surfaced and ripped Alder and PC Maple with high quality and quick turnarounds.

One thing we are doing on all the Straight-Line Ripped One-Edge (SLR1E) and Straight-Line Ripped Two-Edges (SLR2E) lumber we are processing is measuring the net tally after ripping. So when we price it, the price reflects the edging loss incurred in ripping. Customers are free to adjust the tally to represent a gross tally (approximately 10% loss when doing one edge and 17% on two edges, depending on the width of the input stock).

As noted last week we are making our C-Packs, 3 approximate 500 BF packs, stacked together in a single bundle in both Premium and Superior, both S2S to 13/16” and SLR1E. The initial response has been very positive. Several have asked about the availability of C-Packs in only SLR1E, with the stock remaining our standard 15/16” thickness. This would be no problem to do.

Please let us know your needs in ripped and planed Alder. It can save a lot in freight, so much so that a company buying Alder off the West Coast might offset 20% of the rip and surfacing charges in freight savings alone. Buying surfaced, straight-line, or gang-ripped lumber offers efficiencies in production, helps with surge capacity, lowers disposal costs, and can help lower working inventories by bringing in lumber that has skipped some of the initial production processes.

We look forward to showing you the Cascade Yield Advantage. Give us a call.
