Unlocking New Savings
In the lumber industry, logistics can be just as important as the quality of the wood itself. For many of our partners, receiving a load of Cascade Alder or Maple is a routine operation, but the method of delivery can significantly impact your bottom line.
While flatbed trucks are the traditional choice for easy side-unloading, they aren’t always the most cost-effective option. In many shipping lanes, transporting lumber in a van or shipping container offers substantial cost savings. However, without a dedicated loading dock or ramp, unloading these enclosed trailers can be a logistical nightmare.
How It Works: Simple, Effective, In-House Innovation
At Cascade Hardwood, we believe in solving problems for our customers. That’s why we’ve fabricated the Cascade Unit Puller. A rugged, in-house solution designed to make van unloading accessible to everyone.
The Process:
- The Setup: When switching from flatbed to either van or railvan shipments, your salesperson will coordinate with our shipping department to put one of the Cascade Unit Pullers in the back of your first load. Unload it first, then use it on the units past the easily accessible ones in the back of the van.
- The Pull: A chain is attached to the Puller and secured to a forklift or other heavy machinery.
- The Slide: As the forklift backs up, the Puller safely and steadily pivots upward, lifting the end of the unit and rolling the lumber units toward the rear of the trailer.
- The Unload: Once the units reach the edge of the van, a forklift can easily engage them from the back and move them into your yard or shop.
Why Use the Cascade Unit Puller?
- Cost Savings: By utilizing vans instead of flatbeds, you can take advantage of lower freight rates on many common shipping routes.
- No Ramp Required: You no longer need an expensive loading dock or portable ramp to accept enclosed shipments.
- Weather Protection: Shipping in a van provides an extra layer of protection from the elements during transit, ensuring your Alder arrives in pristine condition.
- Cascade Quality: These pullers are fabricated right here in our own facility, ensuring they meet the heavy-duty standards of a working lumber mill.
