One of the few downsides to using Alder for Mouldings is the perception that it primarily comes in 8’ and 10’ lengths.  Most Cascade customers should know that we produce 12’ lengths at our Port Angeles sawmill. However, it still is an occasional surprise when we mention it to long-time customers.   
 
At Port Angeles, we are manufacturing 12’ 4/4 Alder nearly every day.  Due to our log resource, we have ample opportunity to make high-quality Superior, Premium, and Standard Frame grades widely used by molding manufacturers.  Case and crown patterns run from 12’ limit the number of butt joints trim carpenters have to use on installation.   
 
For the balance of August, we are running a special for the first 8 companies that want to start stocking 12’ Premium as part of the Cascade program.  Any company that buys a truckload of 12’ Premium Alder can take 90 days to pay us, and this first truckload will be discounted to only $50 above the 8’/10’ PRE price for the initial order.  We also have a load of 5/4 12’ Rustic and a load of 5/4 12’ SUP ready to go if that better suits your customer’s needs. 
 
Moving forward, we plan to emphasize 12’ from Port Angeles as a larger part of our production mix. We are counting on our distributors to expand their standard Alder offerings and let their customers know that 12’ is available and regularly produced and that Alder is no longer just an 8’ and 10’ species.
