Cascade Hardwood’s New Planing and Gang-Ripping System Is Already Driving Customer Successes
Since launching our state-of-the-art planer and gang rip saw system in June 2025, Cascade Hardwood has been running at full capacity for a month, with many customers already returning for reorders. Installed at our Chehalis facility, this cutting-edge setup, powered by a smart robotic infeed, handles multiple lumber lengths with unmatched flexibility. It seamlessly feeds the planer or rip saw while readying the next bundle to be consumed.
Our system precisely knife-planes Alder and PC Maple from 4/4 to 8/4 thicknesses. For ripping, we offer straight-line ripping on one edge (SLR1E) for quick prep or two edges (SLR2E) to maximize width and minimize waste. We also produce high-volume moulder blanks or optimized gang-ripping of random-width lumber using advanced moving blade technology that adjusts to maximize the yield in the board.
Customers are saving up to 15% on freight with pre-ripped and planed 13/16” 4/4 Alder, which offsets some of the milling costs.
SLR1E Benefits: Ready-to-rip boards save time and cut waste disposal costs.
SLR2E Advantages: Perfect for edge-glued panel makers, available in all thicknesses, with significant freight savings.
Blank Ripping: Width-sorted for precise lineal footage, eliminating yield guesswork.
Gang Ripping: Optimized for cutting bills, it preps door rails and face frames for cabinetry, freeing staff for high-value tasks.
