Long-Length Finger-Joint Clear Alder Debut Today

Customers keep asking for 16-foot Alder. While scattered producers try, the small diameter, taper, and crooked nature of Alder logs make long-lengths from a single board very difficult. So, because Alder does not grow long clear cuttings in volume, we turned to option B to take high value shorts and turn them into the long length product.

Both mills already produce 6-foot and 7-foot Superior and Clear in their regular daily runs. That short stock has been undervalued and underused for a long time. Starting today we are offering it as finger-jointed long clears for interior trim.

Installers no longer have to butt short pieces on the job. The joint stays solid. Alder color is so even that the joints often disappear after finishing.

Each board has two or three joints. The joint profile has a thick top shoulder so the stock can be machined S4S, with or without eased edges. Widths are 3-3/4”, 4-3/4”, 5-3/4”, 6-3/4”, and 7-1/2”. The first run came in mostly 3-3/4” and 4-3/4”.

The product hits two requests at once: a clearer face and a longer length. It is available to ship this week.

This is a new offering built from lumber we already make. If you have trim or millwork that needs longer clear Alder, call. We can send samples or a full truck load.
