Remote Warehouses are Helping The Reach of Alder East and Southeast
Many companies need to know that we have warehousing agreements around the USA that facilitate getting Alder into markets in less-than-truckload volumes. This has proven a great option for distributors to pick up units as needed and keep pushing quality Cascade Alder into markets coast to coast.
Our flagship remote warehouse is located with Maley & Wertz, a high-quality hardwood concentration yard in Evansville, IN. Lead by Josh Anstey from Cascade, who works with Philip and Alex Fisher at Maley & Wertz, this location moves truckloads and less-than-truckloads into markets throughout the upper Midwest. With Maley & Wertz having the full array of Eastern species, less than truckloads often become full truckloads of mixed Western and Eastern species. Maley & Wertz has done an exemplary job unloading, warehousing, and reloading Cascade inventory to a degree of accuracy that is second to none. They also handle many customer pick-ups where buyers can send their truck to get Alder on a backhaul. Recently, they have been doing surfacing and straight-line ripping, so customers have immediate access to that for prompt shipment.
Because everything is big in Texas, we have two strategically located options supporting sales in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. In Southern Texas, Overseas Hardwoods Company in Lufkin, TX, stocks a lot of the more popular items and keeps the thicker specialty stock as well. OHC buyers can get Alder along with all the exotic hardwoods they are known for throughout the USA. In the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metro market, S&S Custom Wood Molding stocks items that are popular in that market. S&S has full surfacing, straight-line, and gang-ripping abilities as well. Jeff Tapfer from Cascade oversees both these warehouses and uses these inventories to ensure his Texas-area customers have “safety stock” should they run low in these times of lean inventories at distribution.
Closer to our mills, we also stock lumber Thompson Timber in Philomath, OR. This warehouse is convenient for feeding lumber into California and Utah with shorter lead times and supporting distributors and manufacturers in Oregon who regularly pick up lumber here.
Cascade values these partners for helping us focus on the USA, Canada, and Mexico as our core markets. With their help, we are continuing to grow the user base of Alder to make it just as available and well-known on the East Coast as it is out West, where we source, saw, dry, and ship what we feel is the unique temperate hardwood species. Alder can be easily finished from dark to light, from painted to natural finishes, and works extremely well. With our Emerald alliance with Murphy Plywood, which makes color-matched plywood available, we feel Alder will lead the market as homebuilding improves in 2025.
