If you are making panels and do not need to rip first, this grade will save you money, and from a yield standpoint, you will still be looking at a minimum of 83 1/3% clear 1 face cuttings and back a minimum of 66 2/3% clear cuttings. You may want to give this a try on your next load.”

4/4 SPF 6’ Alder – 3 Truckloads/containers available for prompt shipment

“6’ SPF is the best grade for the money we currently have on the ground. Since Premium is 7’ and longer, this 6‘ knotty alder grade will have mostly high-end sound tight knots. It’s a perfect grade for shorter applications at a much lower price point than 8 &10’ Premium. The grade does contain Rustic and high-end Frame, but is very minimal. Still the best knotty grade for the price.”

4/4 CAB Alder – 15+ containers ready to ship

“The ratio of price to clear cuttings makes this grade one of the best values for cut-up applications. Taking it a step further, average widths in Cascade CAB trend higher as the narrow width boards are sorted into a standalone width sort. CAB is a mix of Cabinet and Custom grades, yielding 66.6% clear 1 and 2 face cuttings. This unique mix offers an all-in-one solution for cabinet manufacturers. One face boards can be used for face frames, while the two face boards can be used for cabinet doors. More specifications and layer photos can be found on our Interactive Grade Selector. If you need a cost-effective yet well-yielding product, consider giving CAB a try.”

4/4 Premium Alder Sorted 6-7” – 4 loads prompt

“PR6 is our top-of-the-line, small knot, knotty appearance grade many rely on Cascade for, but sorted for the slightly wider-than-average Premium boards in 6” to 7” widths. PR6 is great for wide casing, base, crown moldings, and window sill stock, where a sound tight knot premium application is required. If you are looking for predicable yields, faster runs and more jobs completed, PR 6 may be the perfect fit for your production needs.”

4/4 S1F (Superior 1 Face) Alder – 5 truckloads/containers prompt

“There are so many single-face applications where our S1F works, and the price is a fraction of 10’ SUP. Distributors should stock this and offer it regularly to their SUP customers as a high-value alternative. We are also selling to companies slicing it for the full range of grades of face veneers. I also want it out of our warehouses and out of my way.”

4/4 CB4 Alder – 5 loads prompt

“Just like we sort our Superior and Premium grades at our Port Angeles mill, we also sort a CAB 4” product we call CB4. This product is predominantly 2’ and longer two-faced cuttings, with a small percentage having a one-face cutting and sound back.  Because it is 3-3/4” to 5” wide, it takes a lot of clear material for it to get the 66-2/3% clear that is required to make grade. It sells for a fraction of the price of SUP yet will have high yields that sharply lower parts costs in cabinet doors and furniture. If you’re cutting up Alder and looking for profitable alternatives, run some packs of CB4 and compare final costs. You might be surprised.”
